handbrake auto adjuster bust?

Post by steve_weegie » Tue Apr 22, 2008 7:52 pm

Evening all,

I think my handbrake auto adjuster mechanism is broke... The brake pedal goes very far down towards the floor, before becoming solid and braking fine. If i pull the handbrake up 3 clicks, the rear brakes still haven't started to grip the disc and the brake pedal travel returns to normal.

Anybody had this problem before?

Cheers,

Steve

very strange, sounds like the adjuster/piston have somehow become locked together . . . shouldn't happen of course, I'd try rewinding the piston back into the caliper and see what happens . . . this may, of course, render the car undrivable if it breaks something further . . .

Yup, wierd indeed.... PM consensus seems to be that it's a knackered adjuster - probably on one side only... Dont want to scupper it completely before kames, so i'll give it some attention on Sunday. Its fine with the handbrake up 3 clicks :)
