MOT Failure - looking for guidance...

Folks, just had the car failed for 'Offside front track rod end ball joint has excessive play'. Does anyone out there have a spare to hand that I can take in exchange for readies? Failing that, any idea where I can pick one up quickly?

I'm assuming I'll need a splitter to get the failed part off the car. Does anyone have one I could borrow? Looking to get the car back in for a retest within the 10 days so I'm not forking out for a full test again.

Cheers,
Iain (Z).

motor factors will have them

Item Manufacturer Part no
Track rod end QH QR2382S

should be able to get them no problem
I have a scissor type splitter if you need to borrow it (best for track rod ends)

Ideal. I'll see if I can pick one up tomorrow or Sat am. Are you in Killie? If so & if it was ok to borrow the splitter when would it suit to pick it up?

Cheers,
Iain.

theyre not specialist parts. they will be freely available from most half decent motor factors. as will the splitter (£8ish)
you might not need a splitter as you wont be re-using the old joint anyway. so a few smart cracks on the threads of the hammer will pop it off the taper. in saying that, i use the splitter every time to do mine because i have one handy. but see how you get on.
hopefully it wont be too tight on the track rod and the locknut will release ok too. you may have to resort to mole grips/ stillsons and swearing if the locknut rounds
