Scottish Elises

Does anyone else get a strong burning smell after driving quite hard?
Not sure if this is normal or not, I checked the water level which was just above the min marker and the oil is sitting fine too.
I have also noticed a sort of pinging noise coming from the back end when pulling away , I gave the back end a bounce up and down and it seems to be coming from the back suspension ?
Should i be worried????

could be either the alternator or the fan... check the battery for a charging current when running.
i managed to determine that it was coming from the top right hand side of the engine bay (above the alternator) although it did smell as if it was coming through the vents
