Anyone technical.....

Post by Paolo » Wed May 21, 2008 6:36 pm

...fancy having a listen to the rattle I have?? MMC had a look at it a few weeks ago (when it was being serviced) and replaced a worn droplink. Still getting a very annoying rattle from the drivers footwell going over small bumps. It might not be anything too serious but I could do with some guidance on what to rule out before I take the trip through to Edinburgh (again). Even a "it's nowt to worry about" would make me feel a little bit better.

It's a yota 111R and I'm in Paisley.

Cheers,

Paul :(

No probs, I know its not the best bit of advice but I do not have any technical knowledge of cars oil change and changing a set of brake pads (the correct way round :D )are about as far as my knowledge goes but if its knocking only when your going over bumps you would think its something loose and you might by luck see it or if you shake something and it rattles you know thats probs where noise is coming from. Least I tried ........

Ahhhhh good point! hahaha mid engine. Worth a wee look anyways. I know other cars are bad for heat shields rattling but if it is only over small bumps you would think mabye an exhaust rubber or something, this being mid engined though I have no knowledge of what the exhaust is like. Probs be something stupid dangling about or a bit loose and probs nothing to worry about, just have a look and see what you can see wont do any harm.

Just had a thought may be a stupid one but here it goes, see if you have just had it serviced you would have an oil change. I am sure someone said there is a cover on the bottom which they would have took off to get to the sump I take it. If so might just be one of the bolts loose and the cover rattling over bumps..........

Long shot.........

Paulo,
could be a case of TADTS for elises - its usually when clunking and rattles stop that you should worry!

try jacking up the right hand side and see if theres any play in the wheel - i.e. push and pull the wheel as if moving the wheels to turn left and right putting your hands on the 3 and 6 oclock positions. can you feel a discreet knocking vibration through the wheel when you do this?

what age is the car?
does the noise stop at all when you are braking?

im no expert, but drop me a PM if you want me to have a quik look at it.

Paul - word of advice. Don't ever accept this invite. Ever.

We used an entire spray thing of wheel cleaner on his wheels and they were still manky.

Oh and im no expert but i think it's probably a TADT - you should come out in my car. it will make you feel so much better about how quiet your suspension is :D
