Tyre recommendations

I need a new pair of front tyres, they have worn uneavenly, much more on the inside than the outside.

Inside third is nearly gone :shock: but the outerthird still looks fresh.

Is there a reason for this, alignment, camber incorrect etc? Do I need the geo checked?

Any recommendations on which new tyres to get.

Existing ones are Bridgestones, which I have found to be okay, but am willing to change. Rears are Bridgstones too and they look okay still. (will double check depth)

So am I best to stick new Bridgies on the front? Or can I put something else there and keep the backs as they are?
Or would I be best changing all four?

Car has just been on the road so-far, but I intend to do a track day or two this year... But main priority would be all year road use. So I would suffer some loss in dry track grip in exchange for wet road grip.

Any recommendations?

I'm going to try the new Yoko advans that they are now fitting to the S2 as standard :D

Looks like a sweet compromise between track and road tyre. I think Si might be trying a set out currently :?:

The uneven ear though definately would relate to the geo set up on the car. Might be worth going to see Willie at CLCM. He's sorted my car tremendously well :D

I've got t1r's and a048s, but i have 2 sets of wheels so i can change depending on weather or activity. :wink:

The t1r's were brutal for the first 1k miles (felt like the car was unstable due to sidewall construction apparently) and although they are fine now and good in the rain, i wouldn't buy them again. :(

The Ao48's are genial (exceptional) on the track and pretty good on the road, but they are pricey and will last 5-6k tops, dependant on use. 8)

The Yoko AD07s are pretty good, I've got them fitted to mine as Andy said. They hold up pretty well on track and I don't think they're any worse than the Bridgestones in the wet on road. Good thing about them is that they're actually cheaper than the Bridgestones at £394 + fitting for a set from MMC. Just remember to ask for the SE discount (10% on a full set, 5% on a pair) when you order them :thumbsup

Have you hit the track alot in that time Ali? 2 sets of rears in 6.5k is pretty good going! :D

I'm going to need another 4 soon :(

Errr...the last set of rears have only done East Fortune and about 1K road miles. They are now at around 2-2.5mm... :shock:

I reckon I'll need a new set of 4 before the 'ring/Spa trip...and another 2 new rears after.

Decided to go down the Yoko route, via Murrays.

Went in this afternoon to have them fitted but the barsteward (testing :wink: ) locking wheel nuts have locked too well. Needing new key and locking nuts plus a possible drill-out of farcked nut.

They need to order a key and nuts so wont get done till sometime next week

Nooooo, don't get new ones the same!!!
They are a nightmare, see my posts on them. Replace them with normal 17mm headed bolts like I have, far better solution. Drilling out the bolts is a pain in the arse btw, cost me £120 to get my AD07s fitted, they must be cursed :P

What's the point of the locking nuts anyway? To stop someone stealing your wheels? It would be easier to steal the whole car.. well carry on then it's insured!

I'll phone Murrays in the morning and see what they say about trying to remove the knackered one and not bother with lockers....

Well I was £120 for fitting from Wheels Around. That included a full set of new bolts, drilling out 3 stuck bolts and 5 hours (at least) of labour. They will probably tell you that Lotus don't do normal bolts but if you go to any motor factors with one of your existing bolts they'll have a matching 17mm hex head one.

Okay resurecting this thread because MMC have not been back in touch with me about fitting my tyres.

Is there anywhere other than MMC I can get the Yoko AD07s ?

I was told by local tyre place that those Yokos were Lotus only....

GET RID OF YOUR LOCKING WHEEL NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A complete waste of time on an Elise and guaranteed, especially if you have two sets of wheels, and/or do track days, that you will suffer in the end trying to get them off.

The key strips with no effort, there are hundreds of combinations so you can not borrow someone elses, and counless owners have been caught out.

Don't worry Tut I'm getting rid of them, once MMC get back to me about bringing my car in to remove the brocken/stck one and fit the tyres.
