Wheel options

I am just about to order a set of S2 135R black alloy wheels (£1200 gulp) with the aim of fitting some better sized sticky tyres to my car ( plus they will look nice ). Probably 048's ( I know they will fit standard rims but I am not happy to do that ) . I understand it advisable to fit an upgrade toe link kit .

I read somewhere that the standard suspension will not be up to it so that means Nitrons which I cannot afford to do .

There is always the option of just fitting AD07's but will they be a much better option than the Bridgestones ?

Anything else I have forgotten.

(P.s. I change my mind with the wind , could be a new plan tomorrow but there is so much shiney stuff out there )

P1sh - I ran on track for well over a year on 48's without any issues (and this was on the original dampers) You might not get the full effect out of the tyre and you might get a bit of snap oversteer when you run out of suspension travel (I never got there!) but your no stranger to the gravel at Kh

done many road & track miles on my 48's and standard suspension. biggest worry was grinding away the wheel arch liner, but thats just another battle scar as far as im concerned.

Pretty sure the toe-links will be ok on an S2. Twas the S1 where they were made from playdoh IIRC.*

S2 links don't need any more than an increase checking intervals.

That was the advice I got from Lotus Motorsport when I bought the wheel/tyre package.

Opinions differ on that. Worth pointing out even the Yota racers have a method of reinforcing them (cross-linking bar).

Mac'll tell you that Motorsport say they're fine for TD use though.

Having had one let go (yeah, on an S1), I'd upgrade.

Yeah the yota racers have a solid bar going across them - Lotus offered me the opportunity of going down to Hethel for a few days with the car and they would sort me out with something similar. Unfortunatly they didn't guess upon a cost for this so I bowed out.

Our car is still on the originals - after 6 + years, two of which were spent going round Kh on 48's.

S2 Exige had option of upgraded (double shear) toe links, mine still needed replaced twice.

No 'problem' running 48s on standard suspension but no advantage other than maybe cosmetic. If you drive well within the limits then fine but pushing on the suspension won't cope with the extra grip and when it runs out of ideas you have a less progressive tyre... They'll also wear at twice the rate...

Money better spent on suspension and geo upgrade IMHO. For less money you'll have a car that is ultimately just as fast but much more communicative and easier to drive at (and over) the limit.

Thanks for the replies guys and putting me straight, so I am better holding off and doing the whole package . Edit:Advice that I will ignore in one posts time

MAc I will also get a bucket and spade at the same time. Saw the shocks but I think I will get new ones.

I waited for around a year before getting shocks - only issue I had was with the wheel arch liners wearing through.

Just spoke to a guy at Lotus Motorsport ( thanks for the number a while back Robin) who was very helpful indeed . Its not like speaking to a large faceless corporation which was very suprising . Also spoke about a motorsport ARB .
