Afternoon all,

After ironsiding / grenading / generally blowing a main journal in the car last night, im on the hunt for a new engine.

Does anybody know of any issues regarding fitting a vvc short block to a std head? Wouldnt have thought so, but just wanted to check. The longer term plan will be to transplant the vvc gubbins across, but that will require an emerald that i dont have yet - hence the purchase of a complete vvc unit rather than a std.

I thought the blocks where all basically the same just stroked and bored for for anything from the 1.1 to the 1.8.

Same block - better specced pistons & liners. It's only the heads that differ.

Was just going to ask if you still had my valve spring compressor (if I even lent it to you?)!!

The block mated to standard head will be fine.

You'll also be fine to fit the whole VVC engine, BTW.

Pretty sure that the mech will sit at whatever phase you park it at until you open either of the hydraulic valves - it doesn't require positive feedback to keep it in the correct position.

Standard duration is 244 degrees; VVC is 220 degrees at min duration, 295 at max duration. But it has much larger valves, so even at 220 degrees it'll probably still work as well as a standard head with standard cams across most of the rev range.

That was the plan Robin - i've never done one & the Glasgow south side pavement isn't too accomodating to engine hoists & de-clammed loti

Sorry about your car mate sure it will come back better than ever if you fit a V-tec engine

Ok... Been looking at a few things and have a quick question. Do all vvc units have the coil packs at the bottom of the engine rather than the bolt on top ones the S2 uses? Is this the difference between EU2 and EU3 engines? Any advice welcomed before i make an expensive mistake!

S1 VVCs have two coil packs under the intake Plenium.

Dunno about S2 VVCs

I know this doesn't answer the question but it's half way there

All EU3 engines have plug to coils as far as I am aware.
