Tyre wear

Post by j2 lot » Tue Jun 24, 2008 12:51 pm

Rear AD07's on J2 are down to the wear markers- I only spotted this when the car was in at Ali's for service, as I got 8k from the last set I never bothered to check thinking I had a couple of thousand miles left in them at least

Looked at invoices when I got home and worked out I got just over 5k out of this set
All road use and, given that I have traction control, no spinning up the tyres and limited slip angles before T.C cuts in - geo was checked when these tyres were fitted and wear seems fairly even, so was I driving like a gran for the first set ?

What mileage has anyone else got out of AD07 in the past ?

Should add, still on original fronts - 13k with 5mm left.

I have owned my 111R Sport for about 6 months and have put 6000 miles on it. The car has now done 12500 miles and as far as I know was on original tyres when I bought it. The rears are now just above the wear markers. The fronts have plenty life in them yet. The fronts have fairly even wear. The rears have more wear in the centre and inside edges than on the outside edge. The tyres are run at 26 PSI front and 28 PSI rear. I will keep an eye on wear rate when I replace the rears in the near future.

P.S. Have you bought your new tyres yet ? Could you tell suggest the best place to buy them ?

regards

Alan

From what I've read camskills

are good on price for Toyo R888's and delivery if you've got a friendly tyre fitting place thats not going to sting you £10 a corner

I've done 10,500 miles on rear AD07's and they still have around 5mm left - they have 7mm when new and I'm running the same pressures you quoted. I'm wondering if the added weight of the Toyota engine / gearbox is a big factor here?? Even the 8K from your first set is not that great considering some folks get 5000 miles on A048 rears..

Cheers,

I'd have to say that's pretty hard wear. Don't count spinning wheels and the TC, how hard does it get driven? I mean, is the TC chuntering out of most slow corners? If you load the tyres hard, don't think they won't be wearing just because they are not spinning

Might be worth checking the rear toe is in spec - I killed a set of rear 38s in just over 1K because I neglected this after a toe link rod-end change (idiot)

I'd check rear toe. Too much rear toe in will drastically increase tyre wear.

ONLY place I could get AD07 was at MMC - Wheelsaround said main dealer is the only option. Price was about £280 fitted for rears (with SE discount) , which I thought was pretty good.

the lower the pressure the quicker they will wear out - the 48's are really bad for this

Nah, other way round. If you run them slightly high, they wear out in the middle.

I would have thought your wear rate would have improved lately - since you started poncing shots in other folks cars
