Wing Mirror Advice...

My wing mirror has been a bit "wobbley" for a while now and today when i went it was just hanging on and no more.

I've had a look at it and I am not sure how it was fixed to begin with. The two rods fit into the stalk but there doesnt appear to be any glue. There also doesnt seem to be any screws. Can I fix it (without copious amounts of duck tape) or should I just get a new mirror? If I get another mirror am I able to take it apart so I can use the body coloured part?

Cheers,
Graeme

There should be a screw into the top rod of the 2nd picture - it's a complete PITA to get to from the underside of the mount. I think it's a torx screw!

I had the same problem after some wee scrote kicked my wing mirror off!

Good luck!

cheers will take a proper look tomorrow, really annoying not having it especially since you have poor visibility toward the rear of the car.

nxy has some experience of sorting wing mirrors, drop him a PM, he may be offline a day or two having just had a heart op  however he will by now be home, bored out of his skull "convalescing" for the next 4 weeks!!!

Hope he recovers quickly as well!

Just looked on eliseparts and a new mirror is only £35 so thinking I'll just go for that. Does anyone know if they are orignal parts? I now have the old mirror in peices and want to transfer the body coloured section to the new mirror, anyone know if it'll fit?

That's the worst part - the spring loaded section is a nightmare

Will do Graeme, 2nd time he's had the same "procedure" 1st time round didn't find the "leak" but apparently the top mechanic was on the case this time and they sorted it :-)

nxy will be posting on here before long I reckon, due to general boredom. He's got a wheel bearing and ARB joint to fix already, I hear ;-)

Don't see why they wouldn't be. With the exception of the 'tripod' section, which isn't sold as part of the eliseparts one, I reckon they are simply Rover Metro/100 mirrors

Hi

Campbell is right, not bored yet but have now rearranged all my paper work so at least some things are upto date.
I used a quick fix by the use of silicone and then cable ties to hold the mirror on until the silicone had set this was because the internal screw had been chewed up by the previous owners? so was just a lazy fix, but i now have a elise with no mot sitting in the garage ready for some tlc but iam not allowed to do anything for the first week but at least my electrical fault is fixed!! :D
