NLC Sh*troen alarm

Post by tuscan_thunder » Wed Jul 02, 2008 12:35 pm

My Saxo (soon to be hillclimb-car) has what could be gently described as 'alarm issues'.

The locks don't always lock when you turn the key and sometimes the car randomly unlocks itself.

The central locking is still connected as I'm worried that by ripping it out, I'll goose the immobiliser, leaving the car immobile.

The hazards sometimes flash rapidly, and at random, for a few seconds at a time. This can occur at any time. Starting the car does nothing to stop it.

I have a remote key plipper thing and pressing that also has no effect.

If I pull out the fuses for the central locking (and then rip out the system itself) what is the likelihood of a) the immobiliser still working and b) the problem being cured?

Any suggestions?

Sounds like a dodgey door lock contact, I doubt you'll upset the immobiliser they tend just to have a trigger wire to the central locking and nothing more. You just need to find it....

What year is the saxo ?

The immobiliser won't be affected by removing the central locking/alarm, it's a stand alone gadget which works solely off either the keypad or the chipped key once it's put in the ignition barrel.

Had a 2000 VTR and a 2001 VTS back in the day and mingled with many peeps who had stripped there mk1 and mk2 saxo's bare with no immob. issues.

It's a 98 early VTS. It has no keypad, just the key and plipper.

Any clues as to where the immobiliser lives? Will removing it knacker the whole thing?

I'll rip out the CL anyway

MK1 with the smiley front grille opposed to the 2 slats then ??

I wouldn't bother removing the Imob. circuit I think it would cause you no end of grief.

If you're determined to remove it I would have a look on http://www.saxosportsclub.com in the techy section there's plenty of peeps on there that could point you in the right direction.

ps ahhhh the memories ..... :|

Yup, it did have that grille, it's now gone in the pursuit of lower weight and better cooling!

I've pulled the C/L fuses and that seems to have done the trick so far: will strip out the system once I'm happy it's not going to cause more problems.

Its competition debut looms closer....
