Fiddle with the throttle control spring at the throttle body, I think you will be able to physically restrict from full throttle opening and that will shave a few bhp.

Put your cat back in, ditch the Hurricane for a K&N cone flapping wildly in hot air inside the engine bay, and swap the Larini back to std exhaust with extra wadding shoved in and maybe also one tailpipe welded up.

;-)

All the above advice is from an unqualified amateur car-washer so you undertake any action entirely at your own risk!

And more seriously...just teach her how to use the car correctly. While she's learning, she'll generally be far to scared to nail the throttle for long and the Elise's natural torquey characteristics will actually help her master gearchanging, pulling away from rest without kanga-hopping etc etc. Apart from its poorer visibility for reverses etc, the Elise is probably a really neutral car to learn in. Lucky gal :-)

Brick under the accelerator?

I'm with cambell about the throttle body (The rest make cock all difference really, you can still get it horribly wrong with 120 bhp)

I don't think there is a throttle up-stop but it wouldn't be hard to come up with something either pedal box end or engine end to limit throttle to about half. Half throttle is still pretty much peak torque so it can still go wrong in a hurry...

Buy a £100 ebay shed - Better than a pranged Lotus?

Also it won't be much fun learning in an Elise, visibility is pants, turning circle is pants, controls are either heavy (Clutch/gear shift/brakes/steering) or light (Throttle) Learning to do a 3 point turn in an Elise is a joke for a beginner, if you bump the curb that means a smashed clam or slitter....

she'll be out in teh focus too but i'd like her to get used to the elise while she's still learning so she doesn't bin it the second she passes her test.

so far she's been pretty good in it, nervous as hell if anything, due to the total lack of bumpers etc

the elise is a really nice car to drive and it makes clutch control and the biting point etc really easy in any other car she drives. also easy to tell the revs as the larini and hurricane make the engine a bit loud like lol

Erm... well, good on you mate... How was that to insure for a learner then?

Should be a throttle stop screw under the pedal that you could limit it with. Or bodge up a limit for the throttle pedal.

Arnold Clark - £9 an hour tuition car...

I REALLY don't think I learnt how to 'drive' until i'd actually passed my test. Teach her in the Focus, then move onto the Elise once she's passed and feels comfy driving the focus.
