What is the best way to preserve a battery when not used for extended periods (normally 4 weeks)?

Disconnect or trickle charger?

I would use a good trickle charger, ie a C-TEK.

I have a Halfords trickle charger and it does the job jus' fine. Usually only plug in over the winter.

Disconnect it at the -ve terminal. It'll need a proper charge after about 1 year of not using it, so 4-weeks at a time is no bother. Remember to disarm the alarm just before you disconnect the -ve terminal.
