DIY section ?

Post by Sanjøy » Tue Apr 04, 2006 7:28 pm

You know what it is like you scour the web as you want to x or y to the car. How about a DIY forum with stickies with guides from the gurus that can be referred to.

They can then be questioned within the guide posting when someone is undertaking the work effectively creating the guides own FAQ?

e.g.

Brake Bleeding
Oil change
Speaker replacement
Air filter replacement
blah

I have Lawrence but many of the contributers are now offline and there is no option to query them for problems during the work.

I guess options like brake leed could directly link to the eliseFAQ and then use the phpbb (this site) to query ?

Great idea Sanjoy that'll make far better use of the FAQ and I'm sure someone can give you edit rights to update it from the new info that has become available....... well done :)

How about a wiki?

Then anyone can contribute without needing any sort of special skills (this could be restricted to SE people by logins rather than allowing the general public in.)

I think the principle is quite good, somebody can contribute, somebody else can spot an mistake and correct it, somebody else can find an easier way and amend etc etc.

If you don't know what a wiki is, a great example of this is the wikipedia, an online encylopedia composed of articles written/ammended by it's users.

Looks good, will look in to getting wiki software runnign on php as I have been speaking to Simon about migrating this board on to one of our own server so that we can drop all the adds and have pretty much unlimited space for DIY photo boards and videos.

It'll be that particular host your company has blocked. I imagine if this was something we wanted to use we would install a wiki in our own scottishelises.com webspace or perhaps something like elise-faq.info/wiki

Try it when you get home :D

Moving to non-ad based system makes sense - porting the data shouldn't be hard (if there is any!).
