Footwell Leak

Post by bertieduff » Sun Aug 31, 2008 7:39 pm

Got a really annoying leak that is filling the footwells when the car is left sitting.

Car is facing downhill, with a shower cape over the soft-top. I'm getting a couple of inches of water in.

Been watching for a few weeks but I just can't find where it is coming from. Doesn't seem to be from around the doors anywhere, so assuming it is at the windscreen or bulkhead. I know a few people have talked about leaks in this area before...any suggestions as to what/where might be the likely culprit...everything (other than the puddle :D ) seems dry

My (04 MY S2) leaked when it was new - from somewhere around the base of the windscreen. Remember driving after it had sat out in a night of lake district rain - had to lift up feet going round corners! Got sorted under warranty. MMC had a 4 page fax from Lotus listing all the likely leak points!! I never had a copy but might be worth trying to get hold of one.

Buy a roll of kitchen towel
Put lots of single bits down, covering various parts of the car.
Give it a quick hose
See which bits are wet to see where the water is coming in.

Hugely useful for detecting leaks in mx5 softtops immediatly after you've fitted them...
