Heater Fan not working.

Post by transglobal » Fri Sep 12, 2008 9:09 am

Don't have a manual and was wondering where the fuse box was. Its a 3 year old 111R. I'll start with the fuse and go from there.

Any other suggestions?

Stuart.

Almost certainly the heater fan resistor pack unfortunately, it's a clam off job to replace it :(

I was looking at this today , did Johns one with the clam off . I "think" it may be possible to do it with the clam on if you dont have aircon . As we could not get the fan out due to lack of space we just rotated it to get at the resistor pack .

Just an theory at the moment , will have a play tomorrow if time allows .

hi guys, i've spoke to the Lotus field service engineer about those resistors and he's informed me that you can do it in place. a mechanic down south somewhere manages to do it. i've tried it myself but always end up having to take the clam off.
cheers

I got access to the resistor pack on my car today without the clam off. Turns out its clean with no corrosion .

It took an hour to get access to the fan resistor pack and an hour and a bit to get it back in position . The only hassle is rotating the fan to get to the pack .Slacken the loom and take a couple of bolts out to get the heater unit up out of the way . I struggled to get it back round due to the heater unit getting stuck and there being no space , a firm hand did not work . You have to lift the offside end of the heater unit into the gap in the chassis and hey presto it fell in . I did use a wide variety of swear words and called my car a **** several times .

Watch out there are loads of sharp edges down there .If you could get the fan out and back in first time it would take half an hour each way excluding the resistor pack .

I took a couple of pics but they are poor. First one is heater unit turned up to rotate fan.

Possible on a K-series S2 but not 111R or Exige. Defintiely a clam off job for them.

Thanks for the replies chaps. I'm now waiting for Murray's coming back to me to see whither Lotus will put it through warranty for me.

The update on this is on a new thread.
