S2/Toyota - Exhaust Options

Apols if the archives hold all this info already....
Since buying the Elise S, I've enjoyed the stealth and 'none-asbo' exhaust note (or total lack of note TBH!!) when compared to the Tomato. However, when in tunnels on our recent Alps trip - and when seeing the look of disappointment on car park admirers faces on starting the engine

- the schoolboy desire for a fruitier, more characteristic sound started me wondering what can be done.
I hear of 'Stage 1' and 'Stage 2' systems, 'Tubulars', and so on... but know little about them or their cost

I am not interested in needing earplugs (the Tomato ticks that box) or upsetting old ladies, but I think I'd like something you can actually hear at revs, so character/note/fruitiness rather than noise IYSWIM. Do any of these options actually have an effect (good or bad) on the performance of a standard Yota engine?
I've surprised myself with this - I normally am only interested in mods that specifically affect/improve performance, rather than cosmetics

Nothing to do with following a certain Elise on 060708 which had a less than subtle exhaust note...

I had a Stage 2 on my 111r and loved it because it was loud - but always was a bit droney on the Motorway
Ive just got a 2bular 7x24 on my Elise SC and I much prefer it to the stage 2 - just as loud when giving it the beans but more sedate on the motorway and pottering around town.
I would have thought you would be looking for the 8 x 24 which is a touch quieter than the 7 - it costs £415 plus VAT
Details on Jims website
http://www.2bular.com/index.htm
Ali at SLS charged me £40 to fit it

Yup, loads in the archives here and
http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Exhaust_silence ... ota_engine , but to recap:
- Forget manufacturers claims about bhp. Its all tosh and only the sound is improved (although that makes a big difference

)
- Lotus stage 1 and 2. Poor quality, and the stage 2 is annoyingly boomy.
- Larini. I have one of these. Really great sound, questionable longevity, some reports of poor customer service
- 2bular. Very well regarded, superb quality, tailor made for volume to your taste, but pricey and possibly a long wait for delivery.
- Quicksilver - never heard one but supposed to be good.
- Janspeed - er, dunno, anyone?

I've just ordered a 2bular 8" x 24" from Jim which he's gonna have ready for me when i get back from Durban in 2 - 3 weeks. As far as i know there is no long delays, maybe 2 weeks, can't remember exactly what he said. See my post about this here

Will let you know how it is when i've fitted it.

Not heard a bad word about them so far!

The corrections are that the Larini cost doesn't include VAT and the Janspeed is now 375!
Good luck!!
