Back from the dead? Rebuilding a K blog

So, after destroying my engine at the Speedfair weekend, the time has come to start rebuilding. Now, i've had engines to bits before, but mostly two strokes so this will probably be quite a learning experience for me, but its something i've fancied doing for years. I've set myself a target to have this ready to give Ali by the end of the month, so please wish me luck!!

Now, the recipe for this rebuild will go something like this.....

1. Take one ex Neil McKeann block thats had some "liner issues", dropped all its coolant into its oil, and strip it down to component parts (thanks Neil, Ali and the S.E. parts bin!!)
2. Clean it up!
3. Get the block machined so the liners will stand 5 thou proud. Also machine my 135 head at the same time.
3. Get the crank inspected and sized for main and big end bearings.
4. Balance the crank, flywheel and clutch cover
5. Fit new (to me) pistons with new rings, rods and liners (thanks so much Mike!)
6. Stick it all back together with the improved bottom oil rail and MLS gasket. I'm going to use my 135 head with a shim when rebuilding, hoping that another skim and the shim will get round the Aero bubble Rover casting. Something tells me this will be the tricky bit ;)
7. Nick all the relevant bits of my own engine and get Ali to do an engine swap :thumbsup
8. Hope it starts

Stage 1 is now complete and i'll post photos later on this evening...

Ok, so here's the current state of play... The block was mounted on a cheap engine stand and stripped to bits... Was pretty straightforward - it i saw a bolt, it got removed :D

From the back, we've got the Pistons & Liners, main bearing ladder, the block with water and oil pumps on the right, crankshaft, oil ladder, sump, clutch cover and flywheel.

Tomorrows tasks include ordering new rings, a few different sealants, and a full engine gasket set including the new oil rail.

8) I like building engines, everything (normally) fits as it should with little swearing.

You won't need luck, it'll be easy
