Motorsport Front Splitter

Post by BiggestNizzy » Wed Oct 15, 2008 11:03 am

I am off for a couple off weeks and I am going to tidy the car up. one of the jobs on the list is a plywood (maybe exterior MDF) front splitter.

As I am in a "I can make mood" I plan to make it myself so...

Does anyone have any pictures/dimentions etc. or am I on my own with it's development.

The car will actually have to move somewhere for Nizzy to experience any aero effect off a wooden splitter...

Fixed the steering yet Niz?

Na the geo is still out but that is on my to-do list

the car may be going off the road for the winter at the end of the month so going to spend some time/money on it ready for next year.

Spoiler/paint should be on before christmas but is overtme dependant.

Have you considered: they look horrific, the downforce requirement on the Killie - Stewarton road is negative, you'll never actually finish it, plywood??!!, bonded composites are not always the way forward, the speed bumps up to yours, the speed bumps to your parents and the car will look to high. Otherthan that it's a sound idea. :thumbsup

BTW, what's with your avatars? Recently you had one of a person you had had a poke at, you have a 10 year old boy now?

I hadn't concidered the aesthetics at all

I am trying to reduce the times I go airborn on the killie stewarton road and as for my avatars recently they have all been pictures of me! I just had long hair in one and in my current one I am 9 not 10.

Dirka, me likey :D but that diffuser is smaller than the one I have.

me not being an aeronautical engineer or steven hawkins, can someone tell me if the extra length of the diffuser in the above pic REALLY makes a difference?? in my little head full of pink shrimps and cola bottles, it wont. :|

Yes it will

otherwise they would't do it.

It will reduce drag and increase downforce slightly although I await robin coming in and telling me I am talking from my rectum :D

Not under 120 tuts... and I've seen Nizzy drive...

Methinks it's another harebrained idea with no foundation in reality, but I'm harsh.

Niz - look at other cars with splitters. Look at the bodywork above the splitter - go read some books on aerodynamics (specifically bits about ground effect). It's daft mate, the ONLY reason to do it on a daft plastic road car is looks and it'll look awful.

i have some wind tunnel details some ware and the s1 is pretty poor areo wise it has inbuilt front lift ie no front downforce at all untill you fit a splitter
difusser wise i think the elise is far to high ground wise to have any effect at all
quite suprised to also find fitting the roof adds front lift , but i suspect tut knew this all the while

I remember from the "making the elise" video the techy nerds from MIRA thought it was sh*t and abused it with plastecine much to the design teams disgust
