Wanted.. Engine bits for rebuild...

Post by Victor Meldrew » Thu Oct 16, 2008 12:21 am

I managed to pick up a single cheap piper vernier on Ebay a while back. Ali will be building my engine over the next few days so if I can get another one, or even better still a matching set, that would be great.

I think McApe is dropping the oil rail and some bits off on Friday at Ali's so the rebuild will start in earnest after that.
I have a set of rear links coming from Holland from Yvo in the next few days.

Think it best to give Kames a miss on Sunday and take time with the rebuild making sure we do everything we can when its in bits.

Things I would like is the single vernier...
Exhaust heat wrap..

If you can be bothered then time the cam with the vernier, get an offset woodruff key made up to match and then use the original pulley :thumbsup I had McApes old verniers years ago.

I would advise against heat wrapping the exhaust.

Which exhaust manifold are you fitting?

I have a pair of verniers you could buy, but I would need to charge you new price as they are brand new ... so if you don't end up buying any second hand, let me know and you can by my spare pipers for whatever DVA charges for a pair of verniers.

Cheers,
Robin

Having heat wrapped my exhaust, I wouldn't bother ever again. You will have fiberglass in everything for weeks....

Err, the standard janspeed 135 manifold would be what exactly?

The standard car, 135 and 111s were all fitted with a short branch 4:2 manifold and then a longer 2:1 downpipe. This is a standard rover item.

IIR the sport 160 was fitted with an overkill wide bore long branch 4:2:1 manifold (no separate downpipe). This is a Janspeed item.

If fitting a 4:2:1 manifold to a car on single throttle body (i.e. <=180BHP) then the narrow bore Janspeed or Piper equivalent is a better bet than the wide bore original Janspeed type.

DVA's current price list has a pair of verniers as 165 (there's no VAT - I guess there would be a small amount of p&p) - anyway you can have these for 160 - I'll deliver them to Ali's for you if you want them?

Cheers,
Robin

If you could deliver them for me that would be great. :thumbsup just tell me how you want baying..

As for exhaust.. I think its the original exhaust but it definatly isnt the same as the std car. There is no joint half way down the pipe, its smoth bore all the way to the flexi...

If you just pay Ali for them when you pay for the rest of your engine work and I'll square up with him later?

I'll take a gander at the exhaust when I drop the verniers off and let you know which one you have.

Do you know what you want the cam timing set to? What cams did you end up fitting?

Robin

OK - well, if you're asking Ali to time them in for you and they are 270's DVA gives two alternate settings for 270's based on whether they are the old ones or the new ones (2001-) - I would guess yours are the new ones - only reason they wouldn't be is if you got them second hand ... in any case, you will need to establish which cams you actually have fitted and what the recommended lift at TDC is ... depending on state of disassembly it may be possible to see the grind number on the camshafts too ... I'll check that out while I'm dropping off the verniers too.

Dan - do you know the answer?
