Another trick you can use on rounded allen bolts is to hammer a torx bit into it. 9/10 it works and saves you having to drill it out.

would need to be a T55 torx bit! Ive only got T40 an T45. Need to go to halfords and get oil and coolant anyways so might just get some there

I dont know if I could trust tools from woolworths to not take my eye out the first time I try to turn them

EZ outs are mince, (the high spiral ones in the picture are better, some heat and hammering in a torx bit is your best bet.

I prefer the cheese-outs as they have a slight twist in them before they snap. when they are hardened all the way through they have a tendency to snap and then you are stuck with a hardened insert in the top of your screw.

:withstupid

I'd try the T55 bit first, EZ outs are nasty.

I've also had success hammering a scrap imperial socket over the outside of the cap head bolt - I have some stud extractors that could possibly work, though would need to check sizes and you may struggle for depth.

Just the action of hammering the socket over the cap head can be enough to loosen it. Some heat never hurts either.

Make sure you replace it with the correct bolt - I suspect it's a mild steel bolt (as it's into alloy).

Cheers,
Robin
