Winter refresh

Post by philthy » Sun Nov 02, 2008 7:10 pm

Thought after 68k miles on the VHPD thought it would be best to strip the engine down to see what kind of state it is in, and if it needs rebuilt. I need to send the head off to Dan to sort the Shims out and stop them rattling when cold too.

Cant really bothered explaining it all, a picture says a thousand words an all that

The cams seem like new, almost no wear, which is nice.

Image

The tensioner bolt wouldnt budge, with a breaker bar on it and ended up being rounded off.

Image

The head bolts have been replaced previously, one was overtightened and needed a bolt remover to get it out too.

Image

Head off, still had the tensioner fitted.

Image

The liners are in good condition, slightly glazed and a bit of scoring on the thrust side but def not 68kmiles of abuse!

Thought this would be a good chance to paitn the cam cover titanium too.

Image

thats all for now!

p.s. halfords are doing 20% off motorsport oils right now, about £38 for 5L which is not bad!

Had a proper look around the pistons and liners tonight and they seem in better condition than most of the 25k rebuilds posted up on SELOC and exiges.com, just wish I had the paperwork to prove the work has been done, and when.

You can have my coolant for free - if you can separate it from the oil?
It's sitting round from your office - dead.

Yep - ironically paid the guy at the office a fiver to clean it, on the way home the temperature went nuts and cut out 2 mins from the flat. 2 of Meatybaws colleagues helped me push it into a space... Proper mayo in the oil cap.. Ali can't take it until next Friday.
Will be calling the AA next Friday.
