Tyre Fitter - Central Belt...?

Post by Fluoxetine » Fri Dec 12, 2008 3:49 pm

Can anyone recommend somewhere to fit / balance a set of tyres for me?

Thinking about fitting Snow Proxes to the Panda, as the Eagle F1's are pants in the ice / snow...Camskill will do a full set for £160~ delivered, but I'd need to arrange fitting...

I'm around Stirling, but the only place I can think of who might do it, would be CLCM in Edinburgh...If they're still about?!

Cheers,

Ross.

You could try Pronto Tyres - still Edinburgh based rather than Stirling though http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... hp?t=10194

Drivers, Charing Cross, Glasgow might be an option.

Cheers guys... :thumbsup

Had a scout around the 'my tyres' site, and noticed that they have a 3rd party fitting agent near Alloa, 4 - 5 miles from me...I'd imagine they'd fit for other customers too, and the price quoted is £6 a wheel / £24 for a set...Even though I'd be getting the tyres from Camskill, I might give them a try... :)

£185 for a set of 4 tyres fitted...Makes a change from paying £225 *each* for rear LTS Bridgestones when I had my S2...

£6 /wheels pretty good going
I've used a couple of ATS tyres and so long as your happy to leave them if they're busy and don't need a recipt £20 a set - straight into their beer kitty
Lachie didn't have much luck recently trying to get tyres swapped around Dunfermline when you hadnt bought them from them.
I did try farmers here in the burgh as I have bough tyres for the shed from them -but they wanted £14.00/wheel so straight back to ATS ready 2 hours later when I got back no problems

CLCM are indeed still around and Willie always happy to see another Scottish Eliser. And usually Lisa with our Golf too ;-)

Just google for CLCM Edinburgh. Worth the trip. Let me know when you are coming through, you could wander over to our office for coffee...only 20 mins away :-)

Okay - Well, I get back from work on Tuesday, so will order the tyres for delivery that day... :thumbsup

Then it's a case of calling round and seeing who can fit me in soonest - Alloa is the most convenient option for me, but if they can't do it, I'll try the Edinburgh alternatives... :)

Cheers,

Ross.

JK tyres in the springkerse . . . fitted loads of tyres for me over the years . . . petrolheads too . . . must be . . . ooooh . . . 2 miles away from your gaff ? . . . quite how driving all the way to Edinburgh to get some tyres fitted makes sense is beyond me !

Fd

Edited to add that I've yet to find a cheaper tyre supplier than these guys, their prices basically match online prices (for me anyway) once you add everything up . . . also if you need a proper honest MOT Duncan Mitchell just round the corner is, in my experience, one of the best, If it should fail it does, if it shouldn't it doesn't, the caterham, elise and the audi fleet go there every year . . .

I've moved recently to Alva, although it's still within easy reach of Springkerse...I'll give JK Tyres a call on Monday, prior to ordering from Camskill...If they can beat Camskill's £160 for x4 tyres delivered, plus the £40ish I've put aside for fitting / balancing, as well as fit the tyres before Friday (off up north that day), they'll get my business... :thumbsup

(And yes...Going to Edinburgh to fit tyres doesn't make much sense, but it's really only an extra 25-30 minutes over a trip to Stirling from Alva...And gives me the opportunity to do some last minute Xmas shopping...  )

As for MOT's, I've heard very good reports regarding Duncan...He MOT'd my Alfa for its previous owner...I tend to use Central Auto Services in Alloa - The owner is a 'proper' mechanic too, and not just a fitter...He'd rather repair than replace if possible... :)

Thankfully the car has another year and a bit before it's due its first MOT...

Cheers,

Ross.

Going all the way to Edinburgh makes sense when...

a) you have found a fitter you trust and who has proven themselves

b) you have neither time nor inclination to try to find another nearer home and risk the failures before you find the good un (been there done that)

c) you feel like supporting a small, dedicated business where good workmanship deserves to be rewarded and the creation of a long term trusted relationship can help you out of a tight spot one day

d) your office is a few mins from his workshop ;-)

Nonetheless, recommendation is everything so Fd's plug for an outfit near to Rossyboy makes plenty sense too.

I would not touch JK's with someone elses barge pole. You always can find someone with a bad experience but it was really bad. Morrisons the landrover place out Glasgow road do fittings and they are not cowboys. Just my 2p's worth.

Ahhh - It's cool...I've had such a busy day, I've ended up just ordering from Camskill...Should get them on Wednesday... :)

Seems Morrisons charge £14...per tyre to fit a wheel...(!)

I vaguely knew Andrew Morrison when I was involved in the SMRC thing...Might see if he can do a better deal... :thumbsup

Failing that (and Alloa), it's off to Edinburgh...

Try SMS in the Back O'Hill industrial estate, ask for Derek. We (my dad has a garage in the estate) have been using them for 25 years. On appearances the guys look a bit rough (Raploch natives) but they're not that bad.
