It's a recommendation not to use 888s in sub-zero conditions, at the risk of them cracking.

I seem to recall this topic came up on exiges.com a while back, the general feeling was that this was Toyo covering their backs in the States as their more litigious culture would leave them open to being sued in the slim chance of anything going wrong with the tyres. I've yet to hear of anyoe with cracked 888s...
