Hi there,
I have been trying to find out more about what is involved in a C class service on a S1 Elise 1998/9 car that has covered 25000 miles but never had the above service done?
I have herd that it is very expensive and involves timing belt change due to car being stored for a while
Look forward to any information.
Cheers

I had mine done, along with a track rod end and full C service and the cost was just over £400. That was from SE`er brunty who isnt doing servicing anymore, but others have used and recommend Falkland who, when I called, were sub£500 for a C service with cambelt. MMC are way more £.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Will give Falkland a call to see what they say. I was hoping that I would not have to go to MMC as they advised £975 ish

Depends on ur budget I guess, K series engine is very familiar to most decent mechanics. Falkland are highly recommended but I got my C service - S1 '99 at about 32k - for just under £300 from local garage about a year ago.
If I'd had the money tho I'd go to Falkland. 'Local' garages have only convinced me to start doing more things myself (cambelt being an exception tho).

I'd recommend Falkland, friendly knowledgable guys and didn't try to fleece me for anything extra for my 'A' service.

Thanks lads for all your replys
Have been away for a few days working
I don't know if I would trust a local garage appart from any recomendation

then again I supose you pay your money and take a chance.
Just doing some ground work (fact finding) before taking the plunge of a S1.

Plunge on old boy!
Get the cost of a C service taken off the price if you're buying, or get the vendor to do it. If its a private sale, the vendor will likely expect such an approach, and likewise a dealer if they know anything about Lotus

Yip. Thumbs up for Falkland. They did a good job on the Exige C-Service.
Its nearly time for the 111R to have its A Service so I contacted them a few days ago to see if they were 'official' Lotus Servicing Agents yet.. but apparently they are still 'in discussions' with Lotus about it.

Cheers lads
Have been in touch with Falkland, quoted around £450 - £500 depending on brake fluid change for C class service
Apart from the service issue of any car I have only been in 2 test drives 1 passenger and 1 driver, both cars seem to rattle from the rear? Think it was the suspension but not completely sure

I have read the FAQ back to front

however there is no substitute for enthusiast’s knowledge and experience.

any further info or oppions well received
TSF hopefully forth coming S1 owner

Where is the car mate? One of us will gladly come give it the once over for you. I had a rattle from the rear on acceleration and deceleration for a while, but it turned out to be a strangely placed jubilee clip on the undertray. With the car being flat bottomed, things can work loose and rattle on the undertray. Is it a rattle or a clunk?
The suspension should clunk, but as the FAQ says, mostly from the front. My car is a 99 S1 that's just been serviced by MMC, so it should be a pretty good indicator of how a car of that age should run if properly looked after. Drop me a PM if you're in Edinburgh, and you can take her for a spin to see how she compares, or I can come with you to look at the car and let you know the differences.
Cheers,
Greg

Don't think that'll happen, I spoke to them about it a bit when I was in. Specialists maybe but official is pretty unlikely.
