Bad Roads - Fecked Wheel - Help!

Post by BiggestNizzy » Fri Jan 09, 2009 10:38 am

This morning when Driving to work I went down an almighty pothole/drain or something (big enough to switch the radio off) and now I am left with a squeek when I turn right. The steering is straight and a minor inspection shows nothing has dropped off (it is hard to see anything without popping the wheel off)

Any Idea's what could be making the noise ?

I think I have a puncture too:(

Rotational squeak with lock on? Maybe shagged the bearing and there is play.

Squeak following road indentations, may be ARB bush buggered and the bar rubbing on something. Or wishbone bush(es)

Rotational* sqweek when turning any amount right only, turning left stops it (planning left turn only route home :P )

*although I am not 100% on this as It seemed kinda slow

Guess it's a case of jacking up and spinning the wheels to see if you can replicate it/check for play. Takes a wishbone-bending hit to damage a chassis pickup and your steering would be wonky. Will be something cheaply replaceable.

I did the same thing out your way.. well on the muirkirk road 2 weeks ago.... split my wheel new bearing and hub for my borat  over £500 as the whell that were on it are no longer available I had to get a new set... Gutted  It was dark and drizzly so I didn't see the pot hole in question and the only time I go over that way it's dark so I need to find it and get a picture to show the council the state of the roads we're paying for and send them the reciepts for the damage while I'm at it...

Could be something as simple as the little splashguard has been bent slightly so it fouls the disc. Jack it up, spin wheel, see what happens.

Make sure you contact the relevant council and ask for a claim form for damage to your vehicle. I was actually paid by them at one point for damage to a previous car I had. If the hole has been around for a while you might have a chance.

Councils aren't great at paying out for this stuff!

true, IIRC it has to be reported and they have 24hrs to rectify the problem. If you hit it outwith the time given to repair then you can claim for your repairs

I'm off most of next week if you want to bring it round one day when it's light.

The car is stuck at my parents, I have lost the locking wheelnut so tommorows job is get the wheels off. (do metro wheel bolts fit ? ) I will do the clio at the same time.

the noise is not rotational it sounds a bit like air leaking out !

I had a look on the way home and couldn't see any pothole !

How can you report there is a pot hole if you didn't see it until after you drove through it? I only travel the road once a week, hope i'm not stuffed on this :(

true, they have may well have as little a clue as you do to the pot hole being there so they have to have a reasonable amount of time to fix the fault before it causes problem, annoying I know, Ive had a few cars get egg shaped wheels.

I hate laptops ! this is my second time at typing this in.

Anyway popped the wheels off and found that it is a lovely "D" shape

Does anyone know where I can get a hold of a S1 wheel quick and cheap? The elise is currenly my only car (clio should be on the road by next week) but I need it for my work.
