Mobile Phone Water Damage nlc

Post by Jamie84 » Mon Feb 23, 2009 8:11 pm

My phone has been in CFW for the last 9 days apparently getting repaired. Its a sony c902 and I decided not to take out insurance , So I was pleasantly surprised when the guy told me it has a 2 year sony warranty . The phone was working fine apart from the middle (essential) button isnt working.

I called the barstewards today to find out what the hold up was and was was greeted with some cheeky bitch telling me it was irrepairable due to water damage . I asked why they couldnt inform me of this earlier and they said "eh its an automated call thats sent out" before reading out an 10 digit number to me.... "is this yer number pal" ? :chainsaw

Anyway I opened a new bank account last week which has Mobile cover but cant claim on that for another week.

It mentions in the T&C that they dont cover if phones been in hazardous enviroments , I havent actually dropped my phone in the lavy or anything but it has been in the bathroom a few times during showering :blackeye I assume they will be able identify "water damage" the same way CFW has. So that could be out the window also .

Where do I stand if the phones gubbed ? Do I need to buy another and still see out the contract ? Will T-mobile offer me anything ?

:( :( :(

make sure you dry it out completely, water residue sits under the buttons for months.

If you claim on your insurance it will more than likely go back to the same people!

Sadly they will still know, there is a water sensitive strip in all phones that permanently changes colour.

Carphone repair their own phones so it might go elsewhere.
Problem is with water damage all the components are exposed so the repair cannot be 100% so they won't touch them. :(

Dry it out in a warm dry place for a few days it might come back to life. Obviously if your phone was lost...

yeah , well CFW still have it at the moment and I have their replacement phone, I'll mybe try and sort out another phone meantime , get it back from CFW and try and dry it out again . I sat in near the radiator for 45 mins but no luck , perhaps it needs longer .

off to check T&C for loss

If you get it back, pop it in a mug/glass of dry rice for a week. The rice absorbs the moisture. Have known this to work before :)

Get it back from them. I had this problem with a Sony Ericsson a few years ago. Middle joystick type button started working intermittantly. Did a software upgrade and this sorted it out. I would imagine they will tell you it's goosed just to sell you another! :x

Once, my mates Nokia kept switching itself off. He took it to O2 who said it had water damage and they wouldn't repair it. I offered to take a look for him, opened it up and found a small amount of green (kind of dried up moisture/mold) on the contacts on the PCB for the on/off button. Gave it a clean and it worked fine until he got a new one 6 months later.

Thanks for the advice , I had a quick look at the sony and was going to open it up but couldnt figure out how :?

No obvious screws or clips .

Its the middle button which has completely gone now on my phone , it was intermittant before though.
