Beam Deflectors?

Post by whaleys » Mon Mar 02, 2009 5:45 pm

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything, so sorry if I missed something...

I'm going to be travelling around Europe in the Elise this summer. I was wondering what the hell you do for deflecting the dipped beam? I know you get the stick on deflectors but I am assuming those wont do?

the procedure is in the owner's manual for S2s

briefly you remove the lens cover to reveal a wee lever - move the lever to the second position and replace the lens cover.

If it's the summer time is it worth it? You might hardly be using the headlights if the days are long.

Ta for the responses,

I looked in the S2 owners manual and it didnt mention anything about the lever, it just said that you could buy something to go over it? (trying to remember what it said off the top of my head). I'll go home and have another look at it, that might be the procedure for newer ones? I have a 2002 Elise.

I would want to get the deflectors just in case, I'm a bit of a wimp :D

Most of us never bother when we go over to the dark side.

If you must, stick a couple of bits of black tape on the glass, the legislation would have been laid down by Brussels, so nobody will have any idea anyway.

ps I have a LHD car with RHD headlights, so let them work that out.

Hi guys, here is an image of the page from my handbook and copy of the wording.

Image

Headlamp Masking: If a right hand drive car is to be used in a
left hand drive territory, or vice-versa, it is necessary to mask
certain areas of the headlamp dip beam in order to prevent
dazzle. A masking lever is incorporated into each dip beam
head lamp to allow selection of a horizontal cut off. The
head lamp cover must be removed for access to the lever (see
above).

I travel to the continet every year and always mask my lights. I am annoyed by how may eastern european cars Isee on our roads now with their lights blazing the wrong way. They don't care but 2 wrongs don't make a right so mask your lights please.

Thanks for the responses, I'll use the lever which is a pretty smart design thought, good job who ever designed them :thumbsup

Although I didn't think I was going mad! I went home and looked in my wee book and there isn't anything in it about a lever. The page you posted BingoKing is in my book but its on page 79 and I dont think my book goes up to 116. (beginning to wonder what knock off book i have)

I'll post the page to prove my sanity.

Cheers though guys,

Graeme

Here we go...

The question now is, what owners manual do I have?
It only has 100 pages.

You'll have a K powered owners book.

I'm a bit confused - did you find that page before or after you asked the question?

I had looked through it a week or so before asking the question and had been meaning to ask for advice on it. Couldn't remember what it said but didn't remember it mentioning anything specific. After you mentioned it should be in the hand book I went back and checked it, which confused me a bit.

It's sorted now :D

Thanks,
Graeme

Just read my first post again and realised why you might be confused.

When I said I said I had done a quick search and couldn't find anything I meant I'd done a quick search of the technical forum, sorry if that was misleading.

Ok. My car is a 2008 model SC and I have 143 pages in the handbook and it covers Exige S, Elise S, 2007 model year plus 13 pages in a 2008 model year supplement to be read inconjunction with handbook B120T0324.

Glad you are no longer confused. Let me know how easy it is to change the lights as I will need to do it for my summer trip to Switzerland.

Regards
Brian

Depends on model and year IIRC, my old Exige you had access to remove the lens cover without touching the wheelarch liner, others I've heard you need the liner out...even meaning taking the wheels off.

The lever just blanks off the whole of the upper portion of the dip beam (for both sides of the road) so you could do it before you leave rather than trying to do it on the ferry etc.

Cheers, I'll let you know how I get on bingoking.

I'm pretty sure I'll have to take the arch liner off and unfortunately probably need to take the wheel off in the process.

Ali, how did you access it to get the lens cover off without removing the liner? If it's possible I would much prefer to try that. The owners manual mentions though that the liner will need removed.

Cheers,
Graeme
