Private plate ?

can someone give me a brief run through how I retain my private plate is it straight forward ? how long does it take ? how long can I retain it for ? cheers

v778 retention certificate in the post to dvla , pay the fee , recieve new plate ?
Any idea on timescale ?

It only took 5 working days for mine and that was at the end of last month,

Yep they quote fairly long turnarounds but will often beat them.
The Edin DVLA office is below us at work, handy

and Lisa's plate was whipped off and new V5, MOT, retention certificate and auth for new plate all turned round within what felt like about 10 calendar days.
Note - it's worth getting the plate retained pronto if selling, you have to surrender your V5 and can't legally transfer ownership until that comes back which in theory can be 3-4 weeks at busy times.

I had my number retained and my new number with new V5 within a week recently

Anyone know what I need to send off , I have completed the v317 , a cheque and enclosed my Reg Certificate. That it ?
I tried to contact DVLA , spent around 10 mins talking to robot like voices before being bluntly told "we can help,bye"
