Scottish Elises

Hi lads,

S1 1998 question

Was wondering if anybody could advise on replacement head lights as the lenses on the car and starting to tarnish.

Had look at Elise FAQ but could not open link (click here) as required password.... for fitting etc the site says the part No: is

CIBIE CBC 067689 or VALEO : 067689 ? But where would the best place be to purchase these and are the easy to fit.

Also what exhaust do most people fit after old unit has died : roll: Larini, Jan speed, or what and what is the average cost

I saw some headlamps on ebay and they were under 40quid.

As for the exhaust, I got an exige stainless number for 100quid from ebay which sounds great (did you and mac get it on greg? ) Think the exhaust thing is down to preference, ie what you ike the sound of.

Yeah - we got it done - 7 hours though - 6 off and 1 on.

Still these are the joys of elise ownership.

TSF, I replaced my headlights (98 R) with parts form Elise Parts, prob about an an hours or two as I did not take of my front wheels.

Minimal tools needed.

I got my headlights from eBay too, about £30 but I lucked out. However any decent motor factors wil be able to get em for you with the details you have and they'll be cheaper than Elise Parts probably.

Exhaust... if you can get a cheap st/st job from eBay then (ur a jammy sod! ) cool . If buying new then it depends mainy if you like noisy (oh yes) or quiet an if ur combining it with a decat pipe etc etc.

A 98 S1 with an original exhaust is quite a rarity... it must be shafted?? My 99 one was 2 years ago!! You can probably expect a slight power increase from any decent st/st exhaust!

For the headlights be prepared to have to replace the brackets at the same time - they are laminated metal and the lamination corrodes and seperates so that when you disturb the headlight it gets wobbly and eventually completely disconnects.

The brackets are bonded onto the clam, and you will need some polyeurathane glue to bond on the new ones - if you buy a pair of brackets from EliseParts then it comes with the sikaflex glue that works ....

TBH, you may as well just buy and fit these as the chances are you will need them in the next year and they are easy to fit especially if changing the headlights anyway.

Lots of helpful info, as for the exhaust, to be honest I did not check if it was shafted or not just took it for granted it would be on 98 S1. I was told the tail piece pipe breaks away from the exit of the box and it’s hard to hear / see any difference Would you drop down the rear under tray to check this out?

Might as well get the brackets as you suggested have a great believe in covering 2 jobs at the same time

Forgot to mention I had my brackets done a few years back when my clam was being resprayed as was todl the headlights were about to fall in the clam they were so corroded.

My headlights were really tarnished so was running those rally bulbs from Halfrauds which helped a bit. When I replaced the lamps and put the rally bulbs in I had nice bright beams.

I always drive with my headlights on and after a few weeks of use checkd the looms and no sign of overheating or them going hard etc.
