Diesel focus help.

Post by Jamie84 » Sat Apr 04, 2009 8:39 pm

I managed to pick myself up a diesel Forcus 1.8 estate on thursday to run around in while I renovate my new house.

100k miles , white , blacked out rear windows and 17" mutispokes  closest I could get 2 an astra van .

it actually looks alright and I'm loving having somthing to drive that I dont have to care for but there is a slight problem and I'm not sure whether to return it to the garage , it was cheap at £1150.

It has cut out twice now , misfire ?

Driving along and the engine stops, an indicator on the instrument panel with what looks like a coil symbol flashes , turn the egnition on and off and away it goes again .

Hoping its somthing silly that can be sorted , if not I'll return it to the twat that sold it to me .

Cheers guys.

The light is probably something to do with your glow plugs and may be unrelated to why its cutting out - not that I know anything about diesel engines, or petrol ones. Good luck!

I'm not a diesel expert by any stretch of the imagination but that sounds like the heater plug lamp so it might be a loose wire somewhere also these are timed with a heater plug relay that is only usually active when you turn the key to the second position ~pre ignition and deactivated when the engine is running although a focus is much newer than any diesel I've had
I know a good diesel mechanic in the burgh if thats any help?

Classic Ford Focus diesel Fault, typically caused by the cam position sensor. Get to a friendly garage with an OBDII tester, it's about £40 for the part and an hours labour should cover the diagnostics and testing.

We had this problem with a Focus estate from the auction (ex police), Dastek did it all for £90.
