Which tyres should I take?

Post by smitstui » Mon May 04, 2009 11:38 am

I am heading down to the GMSC trackday tonight with a new 7 type car that I havent driven before.

Anyway, its got A048's half worn on it. I also have a set of alloys in the garage, that I think will fit. they have cheapo tyres on it (I think falkens) but a reasonable ammount of tread.

Which would be better on a wet track?

48s are quite good in the wet actually and way better than most people credit them for.

I'd just go with them, very progressive at the limit also. They did work way better with the Elise than the Atom, which was near suicidal in the wet, but i think that was more weight and power issues!

Keep well clear of the kerbs at KH though - they use Oil based paint on them, and they are like ice in the wet.

As Andy says 48's are not bad in the wet, but they must be over 2mm tread depth or you will suffer.
