Wheels and exhaust queries

Post by Turtlepower » Sat May 09, 2009 3:44 pm

Hi Guys

Hope this hasnt been covered too many times, but hopefuly someone can help me?

After my first trackday last weekend down at Bedford, in the gf's Uncles Elise (s2 111s), I am now looking at what to do with my car. I was looking at the 888 tyres and for what you get the prices seem reasonable, but i also want to look into a second set of wheels for them. Just in the intial pricing 'phase' at the moment and not looking to spend much on the wheels as they wont be used all that much. But what's best? Hang about for a used lotus set or are there 'cheap' wheels to be found?

Second quick question about my exhaust. Was having a proper poke about and clean last weekend with the undertrays off and i can see that the flexi section of my exhaust is 'unravelling' itself. Is this an issue of is that just there for protection? The middle section in this photo (hope i uploaded it correctly?!)

Thanking you all in advance!

Cheers

Steven

Does your car have the original five spoke wheels on, I see it is an "S" but they were phased out that year?

What about a set of Rota alloys from Elise parts or Rare rims if they supply the Lotus size? the slipstream style is nice and they are light and cheap

If you're gonna use R888s and do trackdays then you should budget for a set of uprated toe-links too. ~£350

Ah the dreaded toe links! :(

The ones in the seloc classifieds are exactly the kind of price i'd like to pay but they are 16"&17" wheels which is too big!

The rota wheels are nice but maybe a bit more than i'd like to pay, especially if i need new toe links!

This guy is selling the same as mine (http://forums.seloc.org/classified.php? ... d&id=11022) but I don't know if £400 is a bit steep or if thats the going rate?! Not a lot more and you could have a new set straight out the box! :o

I'd say around £300 is about the right money for S/H AWI 5-spokes.

If thats how much these wheels are worth then im gonna look after mine! :D

Was really just asking if theres any chance of picking up a set that wil fit the car for couple of hundred pounds? Doesnt matter to me what they are / look like! Bit tight that way!

Anyone have any ideas about my exhaust?

Cheers

Quick answer - not really mate. The Elise uses a pretty obscure combination of PCD (bolt circle diameter) and offsets. Nothing off anything else will fit and there are only a few Elise styles. You can get hubcentric adapters to allow fitment of different wheels, but these aren't cheap in themselves, before you even look at wheels to go with them.

I paid £200 for my spare set of standard S1 alloys with no tyres (well 2 fronts have tyres but they really need to come off)

Keep your eyes on seloc and you'll maybe luck in.

I reckon without some messing around with suspension you're not wanting the bigger s2 wheels

Steven

I paid £250 for my five spokers but that was a few years ago and they are getting rarer and harder to get hold of now. As Dan says £300 would be a good price but they seem to have gone upto the £400 mark.
