was plannig on fitting a remote thermostat on my wifes s2 elise today

until i saw how inaccessable the original bloody stat is. going to cut an access panel through the boot rather than remove the inlet.

ayway i took the cap off the coolant reservoir ad its not looking too clever . discolored and what looks like greasy copperish deposits all over the inside.

its looks very like copper slip grease.

we have had the car only 4 weeks and its the first time i've looked i there so no idea if its a new prob or was like that .

oil is fine and drives fine , temp is fine as well . have covered 1500 miles since purchase with no probs

any ideas what is causing this. i kow they are notorious for HGF

seems fine other wise.

hopefully i'll be fitting the new stat tomorrow and so new coolant. i will need to keep an eye on it to see if the same thing happens

Could well be remnants from a previous HGF.
How many miles has the car done?

Copperish stuff in the coolant? Could it be bearing/bushing material? What's the oil look like? Does it lose coolant at all?

Cheers,
Robin
