had the bearing in the alternator go, with similar symptoms. There's a place in Bellshill that does a refurb for £90 if it is the alternator.

S2 111s k-series. Thought that may be it, had problems with it squeeling not long ago.

Most likely the rear bearing in the alternator. They are a common fault on the Bosch alternators fitted to S2s.

I have an S2 spare alternator if you want to fit it to see if the noise goes away ...

Cheers,
Robin

EDIT: Of course you could just take the belt off for a while and see if the noise goes away - that would be easier actually - as you were ..

Not sure, might be this place.

Shandon Electrical. Belgrave St, Bellshill Industrial Estate, Bellshill, ML4 3JA Tel:01698 843602

Was certainly on Belgrave Street, as I worked just on the other side of the carriageway. I can try to find out.

I got a new alternator from here...

http://www.woodauto.com/Component.aspx?Ref=ALT10027

When I bought it, it was £95 but its gone up to £136. They are brand new and dont require your old one in exchange.

Thats for the S2 k-series though.
