S1 cobra alarm problems

Hi Guys, dont know if anyone out there can help me, but been banging my head over this one for a week or so and not getting anywhere on the internet with it. I've an S1 with the Cobra 6422 alarm. When I disconnected the battery during the winter... it went nuts as you would expect. So I reconnected the battery and disarm'd the alarm as recommended - no problem simple. I connected it back up earlier this year and everything appear fine, but never thought on checking it. The other night I thought to check it. The alarm fully works for door openning etc, that is; the hazards flash to show that you have opened the car etc, however the sirien does not go off - there is no noise. I've tried resetting the trasminiters, checked the fuses, disconnected, reconnected the battery including pressing the big button when reconnecting
but no luck
has anyone seen this before or could help.....ta D.

The battery in the siren has probably died - how long have you left it reconnected?
Cheers,
Robin

hi, thanks...
about 2months. I have looked at posts on SELO and the S1 alarm is supposed to "chip" when enabling etc. mine doesn't.
Do you think it still sounds like a siren battery problem?

Either the siren battery or the siren itself. The cobra alarm doesn't interact with the horn, so the only way it has of making any noise is either via some sort of built in buzzer or the siren unit.
You're reporting that it neither buzzes when you arm it, nor does it wail when you trigger the alarm system. I doubt you've got a double-fault, so chances are the noises are always made from the siren unit and it's not working.
There's a four wire loom that runs from the main cobra alarm to the siren - either that loom is disconnected or the siren unit isn't able to make a noise.
I don't know if the siren unit is coded to the alarm unit. I cannot see why that would be required, so I'm guessing you can get a replacement siren from Cobra themselves - give them a call - I'm sure the technical helpline number is in your owner's manual.
Cheers,
Robin

Thank Robin for this... I've take the siren off tonite/tomorrow and have a little look. Also emailed Cobra to see what they say. I'll let you know the outcome...
thanks

assuming this is the optional cobra alarm with the musical note shaped handset...
Mine doesn't do that. The indicators flash though.
Mine beeps when I arm the alarm then press the small button (disarm the motion sensor for use when the roof is off) but not on regular arming and disarming.
It also beeps when I try to arm it with a door open, and as the population of Newcastleton will confirm, my alarm definitely works, about 3 or 4 times just after lunch on Sundays Borders run...

Thanks to your guys help, I got to the bottom of the problem. I disconnected the siren, opened it up and found that the backup battery had corroded and melted some of the siren's PCB - checked with meter. Call an Elise break down south and they wanted £50 for the Cobra 5370 siren, Found a brand new one on ebay for £30, simply plugged it in and the Elise is now happy with a fully noisy siren..... yipeeee
