S1 Tyres

Post by woody » Mon May 22, 2006 12:07 am

So what are people running?

I've just found one of my rear pirelli's is slightly illegal despite them being quite legal two months ago, me not driving it that hard and having been told they dont wear out :scratch

Anyway, i've priced a new pair of Neova's to match the front (plenty of tread) at £260 + fitting (hangar111). TBH thats at tad much just now with me going on holiday in a fortnight on my overtime week/week off. I usually get my tyres through a friend at cost + vat, but of course dont think i'll be able to with the Neova's as it seems they are Lotus only.

I reckon i can get a full set of yoko A539's or Toyo T1-R's for about £200 fitted - so would i be better going for these all round or coughing up the extra for the rear neovas :?:

I'd have liked to have tried Eagle F1's as i've always found them to be excellent, but they dont do front and rears in elise sizes :rage

<==Toyos on mine, no problems but watch the pressures. It turns out that I was running 21.5F 22.5R due to my pressure gauge underreading. This meant loads of grip in the wet but worn shoulders.... They are now up to 23.5/24.5 and they are a little more slippery in the wet but should wear alot better dry grip is unaffected.

8k miles road driving and 1 track session (I know, I know ) So far approx 50% on the rears and 50% down on the inside edge of the fronts.

V Squirmy to begin with but settled in 100 miles or so. £250 delivered next day via Tim Stevens on SELC*CK, sent them the day I asked before my cheque had even arrived! :thumbsup

I would say it depends on how much you are likel;y to be on the track. The t1r's take about 1k to feel decent. I wouldn't buy them again.

Well, i had a good couple of sales of ebay, so Neova's it is then :) Eliseparts had them delivered to Cumnock half an hour before i left for work yesterday, so they'll have to wait until tomorrow to get fitted.

Eliseparts were £255 delivered (free delivery over £25 IIRC) and delivered within 26 hours of ordering.

Hangar111 were £1.50 dearer (but didn't do free delivery so the tyres were actually cheaper), but i didn't know book a track did parts

That seems quite reasonable (£441.38) for all 4 all in. Is there a catch anywhere??

Does that include any SE discount?)

MMC quoted me £153 each last week, that was before asking for the 5% SE discount on pairs, didn't bother as they would still be more expensive.

are they reasonably new???? if so, just keep them mate. i had p zero's on mine and they were a great tyre in the dry, scary in the wet though, but if you appreciate that, then you'll be ok. the 400 quid would be better spent on a couple of walshy days IMHO
