Engine gave way at the SIDC day. The first signs of overheating was coolant spraying out, a little smoke, a tiny rattle. Let it cool down and nurse it home.

Crook of Devon, game over.

Go Duratec power, you know it makes sense. £3700+vat for the DIY kit from Sinclairs add an engine and away you go. They told me the kit would be ready by August, they're just waiting on the exhaust manifolds.

Ah, bad luck :(

Sorry for not stopping. I thought you had just stopped at the shop for a drink and a chat on your phone  . I did think that the exhaust was looking a bit "steamy" when you left KH.

Hi Vic.

Does increasing engine capacity change the class you're in for the sprints?

Nope, the car must have the original type block fitted so a 1.9 will do nicely. There is no "capacity" segregation in A8. That's why Graeme's supercharged K series is legal. 1.4 multiplier would apply if there were an engine size cap

What about next year when we have to run to blue book classifications??? I'm only posing the question, I have no knowledge of how the reg changes affect any class other than the one I'm currently in.

Next year A8 will remain unchanged. How the classes are divided is up to the organizers but within the classes the cars must conform to the relevant MSA rules. Therefore if you create a class for cars up to say 2.0l but don't specify what type of car i.e. road car, modified or sports libre then you could enter that class in anything as long as it complied with the relevant MSA rules for that type of car.

So, as far as A8 is concerned any car from the mentioned marques is allowed and modifications are basically free within certain limits.
Supplemental regs define what cars fit in what class.

Vic, what time scale you looking at and what you doing about Boyndie?

Triumph Trident 660
Triumph Speed Triple 1200RX

Was still hoping to bag a bit double entry action with yourself, if that's still Ok. I expect I will be coming on the train as Lesley has stuff on over the weekend and needs the car.

Dan possibly could get the car ready for the weekend by just doing a quick gasket change, but I would suspect there will be some damage to the bottom end and would rather rebuild the whole thing into a 1.9 block... which wont be done in time. Then it needs running in before the 1st August for the British Sprint champs at Kames.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....
