S1 Lowering Brackets

Post by Gourlay83 » Wed Jul 01, 2009 7:12 pm

I fitted The S2 Bilstein Kit on my S1 with the Elise Parts Lowering Brackets. I have heard that other brackets are on the market but can't find them anywhere. I feel my car sits too high especially at the front.

Has anyone fitted any other lowering bracket to an S1 Elise and where did you get them from.

Is it advisable to lower the Mounting Points for the Shocks as i am worried about damaging shocks ie bottoming them out.

Thanks

Alan

Steve Butts for me as well.

I'm on 110-120 heights front-rear and the shocks don't bottom out, but the front clam and mudflaps do from time to time :thumbsup

Looks 8) though.

Steve gets them from Bernard Scouse. He's the man who makes them (or has them made).

Alan, is the chassis still bare? Remember adding the bodywork etc... will make some difference to the ride height. The other thing you can do is adjust the position of the spring seat on the damper body. The seat is held in place by a circlip in one of three grooves in the damper body. I'm not sure where it'll be set or if the springs you have will be long enough but you can use ther grooves to alter the ride height by about 5mm a time.

I put on all the clams for transporting it to the Paintshop and noticed the ride height at the front. I have also set the spring seat on the dampner to its lowest position.

Back would be fine but the front is just wrong...

Cheers

What springs do you have on the front? S2 or VX?

I'm sure you'll do this but measure the ride heights from level ground to front of the chassis rail...don't base on how the front looks in relation to the top of the tyres etc. Remember the clams are hand-laid so they can have quite a variation to start with, and that's before they are manhandled into place on the chassis ;-)

The circlip trick is certainly worth a look. And the question re: VX springs is I think related to their being ever so slightly shorter, hence allowing lower front ride height. This is what Steve Butts puts on his 100-120 type kits, and has put on mine certainly.

Interesting if Scouse isn't supplying those brackets any more.

Steve sometimes takes quite a while to respond to mail as I think he is fairly swamped with his dayjob...the damper supply is just a sideline I think. A U2U on Seloc may be worth a shot.

Oh, and if that fails, it may be possible to find an engineer via SE who might consider making a set up. Not sure if Stu Pollock could do this? Auto Teknix might give you the dimensions, and if not I could work them out from my car as I'll have to have my own dampers off in the next few weeks for fault diagnosis anyway :-)

I also have the Steve Butts kit with the additional brackets and the car sits perfectly at 110 and 120 rear.
If you havent got hold of Steve yet drop me a PM as I have his home email and telephone number .

Thanks for the Replys,

I have tried Steve's home address but no reply in a couple of weeks.

I am a Designer/Draughtman for an Oil Company and could easy make a drawing up for a set to be made. I have a friend who works in a Fab shop and pretty sure he would make me up a few sets.

Campell, Might take you up on that. My car is stuck in the corner of a Paintshop 150 miles away so can't even measure my own brackets.

Anyone else want a set ?

Righto.

I will need reminding, even though the dampers are next on my list...however not sure when I'll get to them, so drop me a PM if you are getting impatient!
