S1 nitrons on S2

Post by ClarkyBoy » Tue Jul 28, 2009 5:05 pm

will it fit or are they different?

see below,

http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... 84#p271684

i was wondering if this was possible? i know people put s2 billies on s1's so are S1+ S2's the same fitment?

thank you!

they're not dimensionally the same. S2 billies are longer & that's why you need a bracket kit to go along with Billies when fitting to an S1 so would think that this wouldn't be good to try the opposite way. (ride height issues probably but someone will be along to give you a better answer).

You're just going to have to save up.

Thanks Alex,

Better get saving.... bu**er (and thats not butter!),

Although, i was researching this and noticed you get 2 brackets, presume thats for front or back, so either the front or the back must fit with out any change? just dont know which end!

Fronts are the same length. Rears are slightly longer (on the S2).

absolutely no idea. hopefully someone with an S1 that's done the upgrade will be able to tell you.

Edit ** See told you someone would be able to tell you (just not me  )***

I have S2 bilsteins on my S1, they are longer than the koni's But I am sure you could just make a braket to suit

Don't do it - they increased the stroke of the dampers on the S2 for a reason - reducing it again would compromise the handling - not to mention the total foul-up if you had the back lower than the front! (~5mm of rake the wrong way totally screwed my S1 when I first bolted on uprated dampers and didn't set them too well)

Surely not the point of spunking money on dampers in the first place?

So a bracket that does the opposite of s2 sus on an s1 wouldnt work then?

Im going to have to do something soon i think, i noticed the other day my front n/s shock has developed a small leak, its not making any difference to handling at present but im sure it wont take long!

Unless i can find a random s2 shock for the front n/s, might post a wanted and see if anyone has one going spare!

Would correct the ride height, but would still screw the handling - the car is designed for a certain stroke length of damper, shortening that would not be a good idea - especially as one of the big things about the Hofmans setup is that it increases droop travel (with a longer shaft) on the S1. No point paying money for a high-spec way of farking up the improvements that Lotus did make on the rear of the S2 vs the S1.

valid point, i understand now,

yeah, im gonna get on eBay today and see if i can find a shock, after all it will only be to do until i get a decent set, so im not wasting cash on new standard spec stuff, and im sure there are plenty of people out there that have uprated S2 suspension and have standard billies lying in the shed gathering dust!

Unfortunately mate, it looks like all the S2 Billies go to S1 owners wanting to stick a relatively cheap suspension upgrade on their cars... Might not be that easy to find some unless you get lucky. Although I'm sure something'll crop up if you keep an eye on the fleabay :thumbsup
