Current Shugmobile fiddling

Not very photogenic, but bloody important next stage of getting the Shugmobile ready to track...

I've currently got one of Stu's wideband lambda sensors in the car, accurately logging the air/fuel ratio in the exhaust gasses. Bloody impressive kit - easy to install and it even has a wee AFR gauge for the dash (for added bling factor/usability)

It also ties into the Emerald, so you can use the built in logging software to take a data trace of your AFR vs. things like throttle position/revs/load, etc. This is where it gets clever...

Y'see there's a wee program which interrogates the saved logfile of the run, finding out how the engine is running thoughout. It then produces a file, telling you how to alter the map to get the engine running for perfect power and best economy. Even better, our own Mr Ironside has written a wee prog to seamlessly translate this into a new map for the Emerald!

I've just done the first run, I'll need to do several and go finer and finer with the adjustments - then it can also advise how to set it throughout warmup. Time consuming, but zero effort for (I hope) decent gains. Certainly, it'll help with longevity, as I've discovered that my old (narrowband) lambda was miles out - meaning that I'd been running the old engine too rich since day 1. No wonder it died!

Soon as it's done, I'll be booking somewhere reputable for a power run (should have had one before starting, but too late now) to see what we can really get out of a basically standard VVC, with bolt-ons :thumbsup
