Fan won't stop (NLC - Audi S3)

Post by Edin430 » Sun Aug 16, 2009 9:09 pm

After long journeys the fan usually stays on for a couple of mins after the car is switched off to cool it down but even after really short journeys (sometimes literally 2min journey) it stays on for a good few mins - for no apparant reason - as the car hasn't even heated up.

Still under warranty but Audi cant take it until the 25th.

Any ideas whats wrong?!

Presumably the fan is operated by a thermostatic switch installed in the radiator. This will have failed safe - better coming on all the time than not coming on at all!

would that make the dash temp read wrong as well? the dash reads 90 but no idea what it read before as never really paid attention :? guessing as the Exige reads 89 this must be about right.

No, it'll be completely separate from the temperature readout you're seeing on the dash. The one in the radiator will just be a simple on/off switch set at whatever temperature the fans meant to kick in at. Oh and 90 sounds about right temperature wise
