111R Rev Limit

Post by m1key » Tue Aug 18, 2009 1:16 pm

Hi guys, had my 111R for just over a month now and am loving it so far although the sun seems to of disappeared!

Could someone please confirm the shift light/rev limit RPM's please? I believe its around 6000 until its warmed up then around 8000? Whats the difference in RPM between the shift light and the rev limiter?

Also, has anyone got the Lotus Motorsport ECU which lowers the cam change point and what are you views about it, good or bad?

Thanks for the help.
Cheers,
Mike.

P.S. Appologies if this is covered elsewhere - I had a quick look and couldn't find anything.

Until warmed up you really don't want to go near the limiter, which I thought I read was around 4.5k.
When warmed up I think it is either 8200 or 8600.

Shift light is when they recommend you change, beyond optimum performance etc.

Hi Mike, the limit before up to operating temp is between 6000 and 6500 and I agree with Meatball that you don't want to go near it when cold. Once up to temp, the red light is around 8300.

I believe it is gear dependent when up to temp, it will allow 8600 in first then drops to 8300 by third. It could be time related just allowing short transients into higher rpm. With the 2zz Id try keeping it below 7800 in the higher gears, cheers Craig.

Also as regards the lotus motorsport ecu Id speak to sinclairs about the Ronin N/A tune. I think someone last week told me they had it but dont remember who, it gets great reviews regardless. Cheers Craig.

Once hot the rev limit is higher for 1 second then drops back by a 100 RPM or so - I think it's 8,300/8,200 from memory - it's never been 8,600 though some salesmen might tell you otherwise ;-)

In order to get maximum acceleration you need to take the engine to the rev limiter in each gear, trust me ;-)

If you get the motorsport ECU upgrade you have a bit more flexibility as even shifting up just before 8K RPM will keep the engine on second cam in the next gear up. It's a disgrace that they don't include that FOC when buying a new car, TBH, as I'm sure it's a much nicer drive.

Cheers,
Robin

I thought the shift light came on at 8250rpm and that the limiter kicks in at 8750rpm. Obviously I don't intentionally hit the limiter, but the shift light definitely looks like its around the 8200 - 8300 mark and you get a bit of time to change up before the limiter kicks in so I would assume the limiter is therefore higher than about 8300.

When cold, the shift light comes on around 4500rpm I think, before the limiter. I've never hit the limiter when cold but I've seen the red light come on (due to not paying attention  ) and I'm sure it was about 4500. So, I'd guess the limiter is 5000 rpm when cold.

One thing I've noticed in a back-to-back drive with the S1 and the 111R is just how 'approximate' the tacho feels in the 111R. In the S1 you know exactly what revs you're doing all the time - I don't know if it's a difference in the dash graphics or the motor speed/control on the S2 dash (bearing in mind the S1 dash is a megabuck genuine Stack item...)

Thanks for the replies guys.

I always take it nice & easy when cold and never go near the limiter but when warm the shift light seems to come on at about 8250 ish but the limiter doesn't kick in at that point.
