Window weatherstrips (S1)

Hi everyone,
I need some advice. The outer window weatherstrips that run along the top of the doors on my S1 are pretty badly corroded and need replaced. I just phoned MMC and I was told £103 for the pair. I've found various posts on the british-cars forum that reckon it'd be about £35 including new clips!

Bit of a difference in price there! I tried to phone MMC again but reckon they've closed for the afternoon!

So my question: anyone else replaced these? And if so, where did you get them and how much did you pay?

Cheers for any info you've got!

The guy that had my car before me pulled the complete seals off because they were rusty like yours. Unfortunately, from the Service Notes, the seals are made up of about four parts and you can't refit the main part without removing the windows. Can't remember the details exactly but its a lot more than just sticking new seals down :( The price was extortionate to be fair but it isn't just generic seals. If you do find an alternative let me know!

Thanks for the reply.
From what I've read, it is possible and fairly easy to remove the bumpy, corroded outer part, just a matter of pushing down the 9 metal clips and pulling the old strip off. There is a metal strengther bonded to the fibreglass lip that the seal clips onto but I don't need that replaced.
It is also possible to fit the new strip without removing the glass, you need to make a j shaped tool from a thin strip of metal to hold the clips and pull them up once you squeeze them down inside the door. Door panels off of course to retrieve all the failed attempts! :)

Cheers,

They can be changed with the window in but handy if you have nimble fingers and the door card out incase you drop a clip ,do one side at a time as it will show placement of clips the seals are handed so cheq you get two types I got two the same but with 2 part numbers ( packaged wrong ) bit off bathroom sealer underneath before you fit may help stop them rotting as quick ,and they were quite cheap approx £30 posted two years ago from Town & Country
