2nd service - is this normal - advice please
2nd service - is this normal - advice please
Just had MMC on the phone, the Club Racer's in for it's 2 year service with a mildly embarresing 6,500 miles on the clock. I was suprised at the list of work they say it needs including:
1) Front track rods
2) Rear drop links
3) Associated Geo
4) Exhaust heat shields
Is this level of wear normal? glad I remembered its warrenty runs out in a couple of weeks.
I was also offered an aircon service which is recommended by Lotus, however, as the system is working perfectly I've turned that down, is this a wise move?
Looking forward does anyone have an extended warrently or am I best just to take out the AA parts & labour?
Thanks
Jon

Re: 2nd service - is this normal - advice please
That seems ridiculous for that mileage, especially for track rod ends, and I would have thought drop links as well.
Mine has just gone through a complete suspension strip down and it is many tens of thousands of miles since those items were changed, and they are still fine. However an Exige owner should be able to shed more light on it.

The heatshields are crap and always fail.
No way the suspension should be broken - unless you've tracked it or hit a kerb/pothole really hard ... even then I would be surprised.
Cheers

Gents
Thanks for the responses, it has been tracked but not excessively, and I'm always careful to avoid the craters that seem to go un-noticed by the council. Very thankful at the moment that the warranty has a few weeks left to run as I've been told it's all covered. Fingures crossed this is not going to be an annual occurance as I want to keep the Exige for the long haul.
Just heard that some parts are on back order which is annoying as it also needs new tyres after the AMP3 day and would begrudge putting them on before the geo's done.
Hopefully all will be sorted soon.

Re: 2nd service - is this normal - advice please
I am surprised that items which would normally be a "wear and tear" item are being covered under a mechanical defect warranty - would suggest that even they think they shouldnt be worn out at that mileage. I cant imagine you would get the same outcome had the car done 40k miles....

I've had the heat shield and droplinks replaced on my Elise at about 18months/ 15k miles.

Yeah, confused me too! Rear Toe-links maybe? (and quite likely to be a problem)Baggy wrote:Just curious

I'm sure they said rear drop links however could well be wrong as it's been a long week.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.
