Anyone tried 7x15 Compo fronts on std S1!?

Called up Compomotive today to buy my much longed for new wheels (it'll be payday then!). Was going to get the 6x15 8x16 Victory sizes but they now offer a 7x15 for the fronts!
Now is this like with the rears where the tyre size is standard 195/50/15 it's just the wheel that's bigger?
I have Billies with the kit so it's about 110 at the front I think. But surely if the tyre size is standard clearence should be about the same?!
The other thing is the steering, obviously it'll be a little heavier adding a few extra kg, but how much heavier!?
I think it only works out at about £12 more for the extra inch on the front wheels, sounds like a bargain lol!
cheers

Why do you want to go up a size?

Still running the same size tyres which from what i have read your better putting onto a narrower rim rather than wider as they will have a squarer profile that way....
Heavier....
dearer....
Can't see any positives, sure i will be corrected in a minute

Mike, don't know where you read that but it's the wrong way round.
For a kick off the compomotive wheels are lighter than any of the lotus wheels, with the victory's being the heaviest of the bunch so likely that the extra inch won't make that much difference. I run 6 1/2 J front Rota's on mine with an ET of 10mm and the are fine clearance wise but do tend to make the steering a bit heavier. Tyre wise the 195 section tyre doesn't fit a 6" rim properly they are meant for 6 1/2 upwards so you'll find the tyre sits squarer on the wheel, less side wall roll off IYSWIM. They will fit on anything from a 5.5j upwards but, especially Yokohamas, the tread is a fair bit wider than the rim.
So, if you can get them 6 1/2 would be the best compromise for steering weight and correct tyre fitment. With the rota caliper clearance is tight and you have to watch where they put the balance weights or the caliper will just knock them off. The Compomotive MO's are a similar style of wheel but more expensive and I think marginally lighter. Just a couple of things to look out for.

Sorry Mike yeah got that the wrong way round
I was meaning heavier than the 6" versions not Elise wheels, think i will just leave the technical section to the pros

This from toyo's web site for the 888 tyre
15"
195/50R15 Permitted rim width 5.5 - 7.0
16"
225/45ZR16 Permitted rim width 7.0 - 8.5
Edited a sh!t load of times because the board won't keep formating intact

Interesting! So should I be asking has anyone put Exige (sized) wheels on their std S1 and did their front clam survive!?

Exige wheels will fit an Elise but from what I've read is that you have to run big camber on the front to try and avoid clam damage. I was tempted at one stage to go for Exige wheels but I decided that the 16" & 17" wheels looked wrong on an S1 Elise.

S2 wheels have a completely different offset so won't fit the S1 without hub adapters or changing all your wishbones and hubs, S2's being slightly longer IIRC hence the different offset.

i have the compos when i looked into them they where found to be quite heavy with only the victories weighing more however they are a very strong wheel due to their construction and look great i may be wrong but i think the rota was slightly lighter, i expect tyre choice may have a weight difference also ?

Have seen an S1 Elise running on standard S1 Exige wheels, looked all wrong. the wheels simply looked too big for the car, giving it an almost buggy appearance...

The pics posted of the gold wheels on your SELOC thread are pretty nice. Checked last night and mine are th 6J's. The 7's could look really nice.
