honda vtech

Post by danny » Tue Nov 17, 2009 10:02 am

Hi there, has anybody any experiance of using the 1.6 vtec engine from the Vti civic in an elise s1. I have been offered a full car with a good engine and box, my only concern is the lack of torque these engines put out.

cheers danny

It has less power than the rover so I don't see any advantages.

It may be tempting price wise Danny, but the fitting kit for an Elise which is pretty comprehensive and costs a few pennies, would not be value for the final result.

If you can afford it look for a well priced 2.0 Type-R engine, there seem to be plenty around, and that will make you smile. Both my Elises have this engine, one of them S/C, and they make a great car even better.

Less Power and Torque but a great engine all the same, one of Honda's most reliable engine. I personally wouldn't put one in an Elise due to all the work you would have to do for only a little gain.

Like Tut says, K20A - 200 - 220 BHP and not that difficult to install in an Elise.

Cheers
Alan

P.S Know of someone looking for one, if he wants to sell :thumbsup

If you have the space that is the way to source an engine. By the time you sell off all the bits you don't need you will have an engine for peanuts. Also the mileage can be checked and you can make sure everything is running as it should.
