Steering Rack Gaitors

When taken off my shocks to send them away for refurb on Sunday I noticed my steering rack gaitors are very twisted. Possible one with a nick out of them too,

I understand these do wear heavily and note in the history of my car it's had both a rack once and gaitors a few times.

My question is... are they easy to change without removing the rack?
There appears to be enough space to maybe do a key hole surgery type job on them but I was wondering if anyone had done such a thing and whether there are any pitfalls in attempting such a job? Or is it madness and only possible if the rack is removed?

:D

Keyhole surgery it is. No need to remove rack.

I couldn't have done mine without the help of your namesake, Fd, who has a neat technique IIRC. May be posted on our own board somewhere too.

Yep, a bit of a pain.

Put the Tie Wrap on the gator before you feed the it in, then tighten with a pair of long nose pliers. Makes life a little easier

Best of Luck
