Whilst taking the battery out to charge it on my S2 Exige, Ive found a wire that doesn't appear to be connected to anything and I can't see where it goes.
Im looking at 4 cables: 2 go the battery, 1 wrapped in a blueish tape goes to the rear lights with a red and black wire branching off it.
It is the thin one covered in black plastic with a black wire and a purple/green wire with a 3 pin plug that I cant find a home for

I noticed the exact same thing replacing the battery in my car the other day. It's not something like a CD changer plug maybe? I could understand for "normal" cars, but not for a supposed lightweight car.

S1s had random plugs hanging out of the loom everywhere. Legacy of the install being pulled lock-stock out of an MGF and then plugged into Lotus wiring at the engine harness. I'd imagine that spare plugs would be there for a reason on a Yota model, but I don't know them well enough to know what the reason may be. Doesn't mean they'd need to be plugged in on every car though.

You could do a complete system check. Operate everything and see if everything works.
If it's in the front it's less likely to be a critical engine plug I would have thought.

I don't have a clue, but am assuming you've looked around for possible places to plug it.
Maybe it's for optional driving lamps or something (do you have these?)
I'd do as Ferg suggests and test everything.
