S1 front clam damage...

Post by Scottd » Mon Jun 12, 2006 2:08 pm

The car's going in to JMG Perth for a damage assesment this week, a few weeks back a woman drifted out her lane and hit the front passenger side wheel arch. Some of u might of seen it at MT.
I think the garage is probably just gonna want to repair it, but there are any hidden points that could of been stressed by the impact? It was quite a thud an I saw the whole clam move.

cheers

Just the wheel arch, or did the wheel take anything too?

You'll see the whole clam move in a light tap too - it's one-piece and secured only in a few places...

If the wheel was hit - get the geo checked out. You would probably have noticed that the steering wheel was off-centre though, if the toe was knocked on one side.

Yea wheel got hit too so I'm gonna get the geo done. I'll have a look at the service manual an try an work out where the clam is attached an see if there's any damage in those areas. I guess it might of just flexed tho :?

One to check is the wee bolt in the channel around the service hatch. It's got a rubber bung over, to act as the stop for the bonnet itself. I found on mine that the clam popped up and pulled the whole lot out of the crash structure. Mine was a much bigger impact though.

Naw that was just lack of concentration. Oh I've drifted onto the sandy verge, I hope it don't... arg!
It was really just the car coming in the opposite direction that made it 'intersting' tho

If your wheel was hit demand a new stearing rack because they have plastic cups inside that can crack with any impact and may show up later
