engine management light vvc

Post by p4ilip » Fri Jan 15, 2010 10:08 pm

Hi, Just drove home light flashed once when pulling away then about ten mins later came on at about 70mph in top gear, pulled up and it had a miss fire but temperature was fine. stopped and thought about calling AA then started it again and it drove home fine, gave it a blast down road when i got home and still no warning light. Any ideas what could have happened?

Flashing MIL indicates a mis fire. Could be damp in the HT system, the plug leads breaking down or a spark plug starting to fail.

as above... have you had the coil pack or HT leads changed recently?
I had my leads changed with non-OEM ones which caused the the misfire protection systme to kick in over 4k revs. it was down to the leads running adjacent to a sensor

I had changed the plugs but that was a good month ago. I had been cleaning the inlet manifold and the cam cover with a little bit of petrol on a rag just before i set off so it may have got a bit damp. Just been to loch lomond and back and couldnt get it to missfire again so think it may have dried itself out with the heat from the engine. If it does it agin i will investigate the ht leads and make sure they are all clipped in to the correct places. Thanks for the help.
